FTM say they are rewriting the relationship logic, so they admit a problem, but that was over 2 years ago, organic progress. Software slows down with large tree’s, and also crashes for no reason. The present relationship logic if flawed, and not fit for purpose, changes GGP’s into uncles/Aunts, and cousins of various degrees, also only selects relationships from one parent, the logic is unable to understand that those with ancestors before 1700 have most likely all intermarried, so not uncommon for both Ancestors to be related to the home person, the software gets the relationship wrong in over 50% of the time.

Discovered all the relationships to the home person had changed after the upgrade, Great Grand Father in one case was now half a great uncle, and changed on hundred’s of other relationships, complained to FTM, been in email contact since, 52 emails over 3 years. I thought it was the size of my tree but after reading other reviews, I see I am not alone with large files. Users of Family Tree Maker 2 and 3 for Mac and 20 for Windows would no longer have any connectivity to Ancestry. I love that fact I can customize my fields and the ease of going through with the filters. I compact the file several times and still slow. I add a name 2-3 mins, add the birth date 2-3 mins, add place of birth 2-3 minutes again.
Now as I am adding the lost data….this thing takes 2-3 minutes for each entry. So I had to go to my last copy which was October 2020 so I lost a few months, I have the notes, indexes, and obit pics to show me what I lost.

I strongly urge you to install this service pack at your earliest convenience. Service Pack 3 contains critical stability and performance enhancements. Unfortunately it came with a lot of problems and a number of people were not very impressed with it, although I must say there has been an upgrade released which has improved things slightly My advice would be to upgrade to Family Tree Maker 2006. If February we had a surge in power while I had my tree open, when I tried to open the tree back up, it is now corrupt. Family Tree Maker 2008 Program Updates (SP3) are Now Available Back to Blog Service Pack 3 is now available. The newest version is Family Tree Maker 2008, which was released last year. There will a special updater for Family Tree Maker for Mac 3 bought through the Mac App Store.
I have had Family Tree Maker since Boardbond owned it, then ancestry took over and now MacKiev 2019.
